Thinner Guide
1. What is Cutting Ratio?
The % of hair removed in one cut.
Example: 10% = 10 strands out of 100, 30% = 30 strands.
2. Teeth Count ≠ Cutting Ratio
Number of teeth is not the same as cutting ratio.
20 teeth ≠ 20% cut.
A 30-tooth thinner can be designed for 10%, 20%, or 30%.
3. Ratio Breakdown
Up to 30% → Natural texture, safe for any area. (Most common)
Cut with a 20 to 25% cutting ratio
35%+ → Faster cutting, visible lines, more caution needed.
Cut with a 45% to 50% cutting ratio
60%+ → Not for texturizing. Cut with a 60% to 65% cutting ratio
Creates shape outlines directly.
Can replace long shears + blending.
4. Key Tip
Always check the cutting ratio, not just the teeth count.
Choose the ratio that matches your style and purpose.
5. Check the Origin
For premium shears, always look for the mark “Made in Japan.”
This mark is your guarantee of authentic Japanese craftsmanship, trusted steel quality, and lasting performance.
If a product only says “Japanese Steel” without an origin mark, be cautious—it may not offer the same standard.
